WOMEX, the annual gathering of the planet's global music pros, is about to happen in Copenhagen, Denmark. The WOMEXIZER compilation album gives the world a view into artists likely to tour worldwide in coming months and years. From the funk and rumba grooves of Kinshasa’s famous "disabled band" Staff Benda Bilili to the Chinagress revolution of Hanggai, the album has something for everyone; new sounds, old sounds, and everything in between. Nömadak Tx is a luscious musical travelogue that follows two Basque percussionists taking their txalaparta - a unique super marimba played by two people - to India, Lapland, Mongolia and the Saharan desert to meet and fuse their music with that of remote nomadic peoples who each live in unique locations.
WOMEX 2009's first showcase announcement features World Village artists KAYHAN KALHOR w/ "SILENT CITY" collaborators BROOKLYN RIDER, and OREKA TX! The prestigious festival is held in Copenhagen this year Oct 28 through Nov 1, with daytime events at the Bella Center and a nighttime venue soon to be announced, along with further showcases.
