The GREAT NORTIC BAND session was a wonderful way to kick off WOMEX 2009. It was an excellent introduction into music from this part of the world to the WOMEX attendees from all around the globe. There were some really nice moments (and some a little less nice). Overall...a very eye-opening performance.
Highlights for me included a powerful (and sometimes insane) chant from Wimme Saari, some beautiful vocals by Helene Blum, a beautifully subdued accordion piece by Johanna Juhola and some awesome singing by Heida Arnadottir.
