A young star in the colourful world of reggae, the music of human mixing par excellence, Xlim uses all his drive and talent to offer a message of peace.

Moussa “Xlim” Diawara was born in 1984 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. His family was from Gambia and Mali, and he emigrated at age 14 to Canada, where he continued his studies.

In Côte d’Ivoire, Xlim grew up in an atmosphere of intermingling, in a milieu heavily influenced by western styles. Thanks to this opening he experienced as a child, he quickly learned the basics of Quebec culture and adapted easily to his new country.

With a passion for the world of music and its different styles, he registered for courses in guitar and song. He soon discovered a greater attraction for the stage than for recording studios. In 2003, inspired by the hip-hop movement, especially 2pac, IAM and many others, he formed up his group, which he called Le Klergé.

After seven years in Canada, he returned to his native country and rediscovered his roots, his values and his realities. He stayed there for several years before returning in 2007, recharged and determined to share his experiences and feelings through the musical style that had cradled his childhood, reggae.

There then began a period marked by Alpha Blondy, Lucky Dube and Bob Marley. His songs called for loving one’s neighbour, accepting human beings for what they are, with their good sides and their bad sides. He also had fun adapting reggae to the various urban music styles that chance had put in his path.

In 2009, he won his first formal recognition, winning the world music Syli de Bronze organized by Nuits d’Afrique.
